To digitalize means to photograph a work. Since works of art are subject to decay over time, digital photography is useful for making records that document a work’s conservation status. This work is part of Haltadefinizione’s cultural commitment, done in collaboration with curators and restorers to protect our national and international historical artistic heritage.

This vision has led Haltadefinizione into collaborations with some of the most important cultural institutions in Italy, such as the Uffizi Galleries, the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Museum of the Last Supper, and others, to perform digital capture on the works of artists like Leonardo, Raphael, Caravaggio and Botticelli.

Digitalization in the arts is at the same time an opportunity and a reply to multiple needs.

It provides a safe refuge for works of art. Digital images in ultra-high definition are important to conservators and restorers, to monitor the conservation status of works of art before and after restoration, and to help make conservation plans.

The Central Institute for Restoration has certified that digital acquisition technologies do no harm at all to the works of art. Haltadefinizione’s objective is to protect the work during and after digital acquisition, through the many uses of the digital image.

The Internet reaches into every aspect of our lives, whether we are consuming digital content and services or producing some ourselves, for example for social media.

The people in cultural institutions are also working in this context.

With digital formats, collectors, art historians, librarians, academics and museum directors finally have the ability to share the content that they manage with a potentially limitless audience.
