Haltadefinizione has assembled a vast, exclusive archive of very high definition art images. In 2006 Haltadefinizione published the world’s first 8.6 gigapixel photograph of a work of art, the Parete Gaudenziana, a mural by Gaudenzio Ferrari, in Varallo, Italy. The following year we broke that record with a 16.1 gigapixel image of The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, which for some years was the largest digital image in the world. Haltadefinizione has built its distinguished professional reputation through collaborations with the world’s most important museums and institutions such as the Cenacolo Vinciano (the custodian of the Last Supper) and the Accademia di Brera, both in Milan, the Scrovegni Chapel in Padova and the Uffizi Galleries in Florence.
In 2017, the publishing company Franco Cosimo Panini Editore acquired Haltadefinizione. The Panini company has built a reputation over three decades for fostering appreciation and conservation of the artistic and cultural heritage, in Italy and internationally. The merger brought together the technical skills for the acquisition and digital preservation of images with years of experience in publishing, distribution and facilitating appreciation of our cultural heritage.
2021 marks the beginning of a new era for Haltadefinizione. The company is moving into the international market with the opening of offices in Germany, in partnership with Verlag Müller, Schindler and Faksimile Verlag. This is an important step forward for Haltadefinizione, which will extend its exclusive cutting-edge new technologies and tech services to museums and cultural institutions across Europe.
