Fine art itself symbolizes beauty and boundless creativity and it has unlimited potential in the field of interior design and furnishing. Ceramics, textiles, glass, indeed any and all materials can carry images of fine art, and so the art can be reborn in the new media. Such is the purpose of Haltadefinizione’s new exhibition at the Decor Lab showroom, where the underlying theme is understanding the potential of digital technology applied to interior design, in partnership with ABS Group, leader in Italy in the use of textiles for interiors.
With just the right image, any interior space can lend itself to being dressed in fine art. The Haltadefinizione image bank has more than 700 ultra-high definition gigapixel images. The company’s expertise also includes rights management which allows them to collaborate on some extraordinary installations such as the one in the Milan showroom in Via Tortona, n. 37.
The subject of this installation is a reproduction of Portrait of a gentle lady by Tanzio da Varallo, which is held in the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan. It is a rare example of Tanzi’s portrait work, that distinguishes itself for the very fine realism of the portrait and the virtuosic brushwork on her lace collar and her clothing.

The ABS Group produced the image printed onto cloth using a sublimation process, with water-based inks and without chemical solvents. A 100% polyester cloth was used, which is PVC-free, antibacterial, fireproof and recyclable.
The printed cloth was then hung and tied down on a 20 by 16½ foot (6 x 5 m) wall, using slim Descor perforated framing, which is attached to the wall. Mounted cloth has many advantages as a method of wall covering. It uses no adhesives and the anti-bacterial cloth is safe and eco-friendly. Changing the mounted image is quick and easy, and special materials can provide thermal and sound insulation.
The unique beauty of fine art can provide the perfect background imagery for exclusive projects and provide original and customizable creative solutions, with new technologies for printing onto cloth. Decor Lab is the result of the collaboration among these Italian companies, with their different areas of specialization.
