High definition images of the cycle of frescoes painted by Giotto on the walls of the Upper Basilica of Saint Francis in Assisi will soon be available on-line. In order to document the 28 panels which decorate the central nave of the Basilica 10,000 photos were taken for a total of 230 gigabytes of data.
This important photographic acquisition is already visible, in part, thanks to an HD film currently being shown at the exhibition "Giotto e il Trececento. Il più sovrano maestro stato in dipintura" in Rome, till the end of July and which coincides with the 10th anniversary of the re-opening of the Basilica of Saint Francis after the disastrous Umbria earthquake of 1997 and its subsequent invaluable restoration.
