Raphael in Ultra-high Definition

Haltadefinizione’s virtual gallery adds six new works of Raphael from the Palatine Gallery and the Uffizi Gallery.

Uffizi 1

Important works of Raphael have been digitized: La Velata, also known as The Woman with the Veil, The Madonna del Granduca, the portrait of Cardinal Bibbiena, the portrait of Tommaso Inghirami known as “Phaedra” and the Portrait of a Young Man with an Apple, all from the Palatine Gallery. There is also a new scan of the San Giovannino, which is held in the Uffizi Gallery. These new acquisitions join the others in the virtual gallery of Raphael’s works, a digital collection of some of the most important paintings by one of the greatest artists of all time. These Gigapixel images continue Haltadefinizione’s work, promoting our artistic heritage.

Among these are: the Miracle of the Two Hanged Men, a panel from the Praedella of the Baronci Altarpiece, the first work to be commissioned of the young Raphael, at just 17 years of age, The Marriage of the Virgin, a milestone that marks Raphael’s maturity as a painter and shows how he had superceded his master Perugino, and the Fornarina, with its deep links to the artist’s private life, one of the last works completed before his premature passing in 1520.

“Digitalization today can be seen as one of the most effective ways to make our artistic heritage more accessible and fruitful to the general public,” says Luca Ponzio, founder of Haltadefinizione. “In the projects that we are doing with our partner Memooria, we use the most up-to-date photographic techniques for the purposes of reaching a greater audience, learning more about the art and supporting conservation efforts.”

Visitors to the Haltadefinizione website can take an unforgettable journey among Raphael’s brush strokes. The close observation of details, glances and symbols in these works leads us to discover the past, through these masterpieces.
