The Pinacoteca di Brera has taken Haltadefinizione’s ultra-high definition digital copies of a selection of its masterpieces and put them on its website at a special Ultra-High Definition page, for free public viewing. Ready for close-up viewing are masterpieces including The Wedding of the Virgin (aka Lo Sposalizio) by Raphael, The Supper at Emmaus by Caravaggio, The Kiss by Francesco Hayez and the Brera Madonna by Piero della Francesca.The public can now explore these works of art as never before with Haltadefinizione’s online viewer, which is a whole new way of looking at paintings and also a very useful tool for school activities and distance learning.

Says James Bradburne, director of the Pinacoteca di Brera, “At this time, when none of us are able to stand in front of a masterpiece of Raphael to admire it in person, making it available in high definition to allow people to explore it online, is a perfect expression of the power of art and the values of the Pinacoteca.” The current health emergency has upset so many things, including the recent forced closure of cultural sites like museums. This project with the Pinacoteca di Brera is one of many ideas to make museums more accessible online, part of the campaign #laculturanonsiferma (meaning #culture-does-not-stop) promoted by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities.
